“We are proud to be representing Los Angeles County in this incredible 100k Opportunities initiative on February 11, 2016 from 9am-4pm. The Opportunity Fair and Forum is expected to bring about 4,000 youth to interview with dozens of leading employers, practice their interview skills, learn to build a compelling resume, connect with a range of social services, and receive coaching on their job applications.
‘Every year the Los Angeles County Community & Senior Services Department (CSS), and our private and community partners, work together to create meaningful employment and career exploration opportunities for our youth. CSS is proud to join this coalition to create opportunities for our unemployed youth. Last year, through the support of our Board of Supervisors and our community employers, we were able to extend opportunities to over 12,000 youth and are looking to do more this year,’ said Cynthia Banks, the Director of our LA County Community & Senior Services Department.
Two in five people who are unemployed in Los Angeles County are between the ages of 16 and 24, with 19 percent absent from the workforce or school. Further, 23.2 percent of African American youth and 14.6 percent of Latino youth are disconnected, representing a significant proportion of the nearly quarter-of-a-million Opportunity Youth in LA County. One of the leading goals of our department is to ensure every youth in Los Angeles County has the tools and opportunities to succeed.
In support of the participants on February 11, in attendance will be Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, major national company CEOs, and very influential and well-known surprise guests.
