COUNTY AND CITY OF LOS ANGELES RECEIVE GRANT TO ASSIST AMERICAN APPAREL EMPLOYEES
The County and City of Los Angeles received a one-time, $3 million grant from the State Employment Development Department to provide employment and training services to 600 individuals laid off by American Apparel earlier this year. The County will received $1.2 million to serve 240 impacted individuals and the City will receive $1.8 million to serve 360 impacted individuals.
Services will be delivered to impacted individuals by the America’s Job Centers of California and their partners, including the Los Angeles Unified School District. This will include: case management, basic skills training, subsidized work experience, vocational training and supportive services. Placement and follow-up services will be provided to help ensure successful employment outcomes for impacted individuals.
