Creating Opportunities and Real Experiences (CORE) Internship Program, is an initiative of the Los Angeles County’s Youth@Work program in partnership with the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce aimed at providing youth, ages 18-24, with a history of criminal justice involvement with opportunities to obtain paid career exploration and on-the-job work experience at selected private businesses in Los Angeles County.
CORE offers youth who have a criminal justice background two-months of paid work experience, valuable employment skills, a support network and lived-experience mentors to help them advance. CORE’s supplemental education activities will enhance participant’s experience, allowing them to develop career awareness, understanding of personal money management, and work-related social skills.
This is an interest form only. Selection for CORE is limited based on available slots at private sector businesses and program funding. Completing the form does not guarantee entry into the program. An in-person interview may be required.
If you are conditionally selected for participation, you will be asked to complete a background check. The program is designed to assist youth with criminal backgrounds, therefore we strongly encourage you to apply especially if you have a criminal record. The background check shall not be determinative of your participation but will be used to assist in the placement process.
Completing this Interest Form can take up to 30-60 minutes; You will NOT be able to save your answers. Therefore, please ensure that you have the time to devote to the entire application before you commence. We recommend that you print out the form to review all of the questions and to prepare your responses offline, before returning to complete the online Interest Form.
