WDACS launches nationally recognized training to prepare America’s Job Centers of Califonria (AJCC) to serve former offenders. On January 9, 2018, twenty-five AJCC staff began training to become Offender Workforce Development Specialists (OWDS), which requires 160 hours of intensive training on how to provide ex-offenders with workforce development services tailored to their unique needs. Training of AJCC staff as OWDS is part of the County’s overall strategy to connect the reentry population to employment services and careers. The training is led by staff from WDACS, the Probation Department and the Employment Development Department, who have been certified as OWDS master trainers. The OWDS program was created by the National Institute of Corrections, based on best practices identified from throughout the Country.
